History of ProScan

Hello,
My name is David Gore and I am a Computer Engineer by profession and an automotive enthusiast at heart. The idea of ProScan first arose in 2001 after I refused to pay over $400 for a laptop-based vehicle analysis tool to aid in tuning my highly-modified Camaro. I knew that there had to be a more cost-effective solution.

Soon thereafter, I stumbled across the website of ELM Electronics, a Canadian-based company, that offers inexpensive OBD-II interface hardware. So I decided that I would attempt to build my own analysis tool and save a few hundred bucks.

After much research on vehicle diagnostic systems, I started throwing together a graphical user interface for my scan tool using Visual Basic 6.0. After several months of working in my spare time, I had developed a generic application that could read and clear trouble codes, monitor and plot sensor data, and even calculate performance statistics such as 1/4 mile time and trap speed. At this time, I realized that I could save many other individuals hundreds of dollars each by releasing my work.

So I created a web site and began distributing my software, which I named ProScan v1.0, along with customized hardware. It was a huge success. In fact, it was so popular that I couldn't meet the demand. All of my time was spent assembling hardware and making trips to the post office. I was still in college at the time, so I made the decision to quit distributing ProScan.

Since then, I graduated from college, landed a great job, and met the girl of my dreams. In my spare time I resumed development of ProScan. This time, however, I decided that I would attempt to turn ProScan into the world's most cost-effective, professional-grade scan tool. I scrapped the thousands of lines of Visual Basic code that I had dedicated so much time and effort into developing and started with a blank slate.

Quality, Dependability, and Usability were the three metrics in which ProScan v2.0 was designed to excel. After a long year of development, ProScan v2.0 was ready for release! It was written entirely from scratch in rock-sold C++ and sports an extremely professional and user-friendly interface.

With the help of my extremely talented wife, we intend to turn ProScan into the most highly-praised and cost-effective automotive analysis tool in existence! We promise that we will beat any competitor's price! And most importantly, we will respond to all questions on a personal level, and we will do our very best to implement all of the features that you request!
